In the month of February, we’ll be celebrating our CFDV couples! Look for couple profiles throughout the month.
How did you meet?
Courtney: At work…we sat about 10 feet away from each other. Though the invitation for the first date came at happy hour.
Chris: Our desks were close to each other at work. It would have been very awkward if she turned me down.
When did you start coming to CFDV? Whose idea was it?
Courtney: Mine. I had tried some other types of exercise programs, but nothing stuck. A few friends recommended CrossFit so we decided to give it a shot. We were both hooked and are still at it a year and a half later.
Chris: August 2013 and it was definitely Courtney’s idea. I really didn’t know a lot about CrossFit and wasn’t sure I was going to go at first. A year and a half later we are still having a lot of fun.
What’s the best thing about CrossFitting with your significant other? What’s the worst?
Courtney: Since we work and also go to school together, I love having something fun to do together that we both enjoy. The worst part? Sometimes we may drive each other crazy with offering pointers, but it’s always with the best intentions.
Chris: The best is that we motivate each other to workout, especially when one of us doesn’t feel like getting off the couch. There really aren’t any negative aspects.
How has CFDV impacted your relationship?
Courtney: Before we started at CFDV, exercise wasn’t really a big focus of our daily lives. Now it’s become part of our lifestyle and something we look forward to doing every day. Plus, all those squats are paying off… Chris looks great!
Chris: We’ve made a lot of new friends and it just gives us one more thing to share.
Are you competitive with each other?
Courtney: Yes! Though Chris is awesome at the strength workouts and I’m more of a metcon girl, so we complement each other.
Chris: We are very competitive with each other. I think it has something to do with both of us being the oldest child growing up. We compete at work, grad school, CrossFit…Mario Kart. At the end of the day we are just trying to bring out the best in each other.
Name a time when you were most proud or impressed with your significant other.
Courtney: Watching Chris back squat! He lifts so much weight it blows my mind!
Chris: All of the time. She is the most dedicated an enthusiastic person I know.
Complete this sentence: If my significant other were an animal, he or she would be a (blank) because (blank):
Courtney: Chris would be a lion because he’s smart, strong, and speaks his mind. He also always pays his debts… Haha, couldn’t resist a Game of Thrones reference.
Chris: Courtney would be a dolphin. She is smart, a great swimmer, and her favorite food is sushi.
You vs. your SO in a wing eating contest: who wins and why?
Courtney: Not even a question…Chris! He’d destroy me in speed or spiciness! Fun fact – Chris’ picture is hanging on the wall at a bar in the Outer Banks for conquering their hottest wing challenge.
Chris: I would, not even close. The hotter the wings, the better.
